John Dance 1827
|
19 year old Joseph Dance (1800-1847) joined the Royal Marines in October 1820 and was based at Stonehouse Barracks, Plymouth. His entry on the Royal Marines Register shows that he was recruited by Major Bunce at Gloucester, was 19 years old, 5 feet seven and a quarter in height, had brown hair, light hazel eyes, and a fresh complexion. He was born at Stanton, Worcestershire. He met and married Ann Pepperell (1800) who we believe was from Torcross near Stokenham in Devon. They were married at Stonehouse on the 18th of June 1823. His discharge from the Marines after 18 years service was on the 24th of October 1838 and was now suffering from "a good deal knock-kneed", head ache and vertigo.
